about
You're looking for someone who can handle all of the personal parts of your story. It's only fair you know a little about me too.
I graduated with my MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and became licensed as a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate in South Carolina in 2024.
But before all that, I was a military spouse and a homeschool mom. I spent years teaching middle schoolers. I taught ESL. I worked in community development which is a professional way to say I planned events and helped neighbors become friends in their apartment communities.
I’m also an introvert. I prefer mountains over beaches. I spent most of my life thinking I was a cat person, but I have learned that I am actually a dog person. I can deal with pineapple on pizza, but I will never choose it for myself. Oh, and I hate small talk and ice breaker questions, so we can skip all of that when we’re working together.
So what does a session with me look like?
The first session is your time to tell me your story and what you want.
I’ll ask questions, but it won’t feel like an interrogation. This is a conversation. We’re equals here. I might have a degree, but you are the expert on you. As you share your stress, anger, grief, confusion, or whatever it is that pushed to you make that first appointment, I will listen. Then together, we will make some specific goals so we both know where we’re going.
Once we have a plan, each week we’ll work the plan. As we talk, I will challenge you from time to time. I will ask you to look at things in a different way, but all of this will happen within a relationship built on trust, empathy, and safety. I’m here to help you.
Occasionally we’ll revisit your goals to see if we’ve met them or if we need to change them. Overall, you get to decide what you need in each session. I might send you an assessment, especially in our first session. Those can be good tools that give us some more information to work with, but I rely on you to tell me what you’re dealing with each week.
